Dog Reactivity & Behaviour Training FAQs

Reactivity is when a dog reacts strongly to certain triggers such as other dogs, people, bikes, or unfamiliar situations. This might show as barking, lunging, pulling on the lead, or appearing very anxious.

In many cases, reactivity is simply a sign that a dog is feeling overwhelmed or unsure. Through calm, supportive training we can help your dog learn to feel safer and more confident around these situations.

Yes, absolutely. With the right guidance, patience, and understanding, many reactive dogs make wonderful progress.

The goal is not to force your dog to tolerate situations they find difficult, but to help them gradually feel calmer and more able to cope. Over time many dogs become far more relaxed and confident in everyday environments.

Behaviour change can never be guaranteed, as every dog and situation is different. What I can promise is to work closely with you to understand your dog’s behaviour and provide the best possible guidance and training to help you both make progress.

Reactivity and behaviour work is a process, and success comes from consistency, patience, and support. My aim is to give you the knowledge, skills, and practical strategies you need to help your dog feel calmer and more confident in challenging situations.

No. Your dog will never be forced into situations that make them feel uncomfortable.

We always work at your dog’s pace, carefully managing distance and environment so they can learn and build confidence safely.

Every dog is different, and progress depends on factors such as the dog’s history, their triggers, and how long the behaviour has been happening.

Many owners begin to see positive changes within the first few weeks, but building long-term confidence usually takes a little longer. This is why the Calm & Confidence programmes are designed to provide structured support over time.

Please don’t feel embarrassed. Many owners of reactive dogs feel exactly the same way.

My role is to support both you and your dog without judgement. Reactivity is far more common than people realise, and with the right approach you and your dog can absolutely make progress together.

If you are worried that your dog may bite, please don’t panic. This is often a sign that your dog is feeling extremely worried or overwhelmed.

Safety will always come first. During our work together we focus on understanding your dog’s triggers, managing situations carefully, and helping your dog develop calmer responses over time.

Many dogs who show these behaviours improve greatly once they feel safer and more supported.

If you are unsure whether your dog would be suitable for the programme, please get in touch and we can talk through your situation.

The first step is simply getting in touch. You can send a message, give me a call, or complete the contact form on the website. From there we can talk about your dog and decide which Calm & Confidence programme would be the best fit.
